As we're a full month into 2016, this is a good time to talk about what's in store for the coming year.
Before we do that though, lets recap 2015. Last February Ellen Brown performed a Valentine's Dayprogram on the FCC 2/11 Wurlitzer. In March we enjoyed Charlie Balogh at an OSP luncheon. In April we reprised our Orpheum Experience which provides an opportunity for music students to get up close and personal with our Orpheum Wurlitzer. Don Story, Bradley Steinbauer, and Pete Knobloch helped with the demonstration and in assisting the students at the console. In May, John Bittnerdemonstrated three vintage theatre organs from different builders using a Hauptwerk virtual pipe organ. Halfway through 2015, in June, our friend from the UK, Christian Cartwright, performed at our Ice Cream Social at FCC. In July, another visitor from the UK, Bernard Tilley, played an enjoyable program for us at the Orpheum and was later joined on stage by ATOS Organist of the Year David Gray and ATOS Hall of Fame member Lew Williams. Juan Cardona played a great program for us at our annual business meeting at the Orpheum in September. In October, a profitable Silent Sundays returned to the Orpheum withRon Rhode accompanying the classic silent film Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In November it was back to OSP for more salad, pizza, music and Charley. In December Brett Valliant helped us get in the holiday spirit when he played for us at FCC.
2016 Meeting Schedule
Despite all the fabulous entertainment, it has to be said that all too often these events were not well attended with the number of attendees often dipping into the teens and most of those attendees being dedicated Board members. Our membership is decreasing and it seems that many of our members are unable or unwilling to come out for a weekend afternoon meeting regardless of the caliber of the artist and venue. In planning our meeting agenda for 2016 the VOTS Chapter Board weighed the effort and expense involved in holding membership meetings against the degree of member participation and decided to reduce the number of membership meetings and devote more of our time and resources to public facing events. With that in mind here's what's been penciled in for the coming year.
