No era has ever seen a Hollywood heartthrob with such a devoted following as Rudolph Valentino. In this 1925 silent film classic, The Eagle, his charisma is on full display. Valentino portrays a Cossak serving in the Russian army in the time of Czarina Catherine II. After learning of the persecution and death of his father, he swears revenge, dons a mask, and becomes the Black Eagle, a Robin Hood style avenger. Things become complicated when he falls in love with Mascha, played by Vilma Bánky, the daughter of his sworn enemy. The Eagle was one of the best and most popular of Valentino's films and you can experience it on the big screen, accompanied live by Brett Valliant on the Mighty Wurlitzer, in the grandeur of the 1920's movie palace that is the Orpheum Theatre.
