Considered to be one of the greatest comedies of the Silent Era, The General shows Buster Keaton at his finest. Based on a true story, this beautifully remastered edition tells the story of a train conductor, Johnnie, who loves his train ("The General") and Annabelle Lee. When the Civil War begins Union spies capture The General with Annabelle on board. Johnnie must rescue both his loves.
The film will be accompanied by the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, a 5 piece orchestra consisting of piano, violin, coronet, cello and clarinet. The Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra has received rave reviews from across the country:
"...it’s a particular pleasure to hear silent-film music as it was actually performed in most of the first-run theaters of that era — which is to say, by an orchestra.... Mr. Sauer specializes in compiling scores from the authentic photoplay music of the period..., the results are often breathtakingly beautiful and always in the strict service of the film on the screen." -- Dave Kehr, the New York Times
