FCC Wurlitzer To Be Removed

We received word last week that First Christian Church intends to remove the Wurlitzer pipe organ from their Fellowship Hall.

Phoenix College will be selling the Wicks pipe organ in its Sessions Theatre at auction Saturday May 18 at the MCCCD Surplus Warehouse at 8 am.

Don Story Passes

Don Story, a founding member of VOTS in 1963, passed away this week in Tucson at the age of 75.

Seeing the Phoenix Boy's Choir perform is always a treat, but the audience at their April 23rd Spring Pops Concert had the additional pleasure of hearing the Phoenix Orpheum Organ accompanying them.

Good News / Bad News

The Bad News is that the Orpheum Organ is still awaiting the installation of its new blower and is silent. 

The membership meeting that was tentatively scheduled for Sunday September 18th has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date.

FilmBar, Phoenix's true indie film alternative, has agreed to help sponsor Silent Sundays by aiding in the promotion of the events.

Phoenix College Contract Signed

In 2004 our chapter entered into a contractual agreement with the Maricopa Community College District to restore and maintain the Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ installed in the Bulpitt Auditorium of Phoenix College.  Although a great deal of work was done including a beautiful restoration of the console (depicted), the agreement expired

About Us

The Valley of the Sun Chapter (VOTS) was formed in 1958. Our membership is made up of folks just like you, your friends, and family.  The chapter owns the beautiful organ in the Orpheum Theatre and maintains it and other theatre organs in the Phoenix metro area through the active participation and donations of its membership. In addition to the Silent Sundays silent film series, now in its twentieth year, the chapter reaches out to the community with events like our Orpheum Experience for young music students and by partnering with other valley arts organizations. The Valley Of The Sun Chapter of The American Theatre Organ Society is a recognized tax exempt educational and charitable organization under section 501-C-3 of the Internal Revenue Code and is a nonprofit corporation organized in the state of Arizona.
